Banning Hope: Bangladesh Garment Workers Seeking a Dollar an Hour Face Mass Firings, Violence, and False Arrests

Since December 2018, factories have fired at least 7,500 garment workers and Bangladeshi police have arrested 65, subjecting them to criminal charges ranging from petty theft to attempted murder. In Banning Hope, the Worker Rights Consortium details ongoing repressive violence aimed at apparel workers by Bangladeshi security forces in concert with factory owners. The protests were sparked by a woefully inadequate pay raise  that left the country’s minimum wage below fifty cents an hour.
